Quick Picks – Week 31, 2013

Quick Picks

Hi! It’s Friday, which means it’s time for this week’s quick pick of internet finds. As usual, good things come in threes…

Weddings

If you’re considering alternatives to the traditional bridal headwear, be sure to take a look at the gorgeous creations of Angelica Brigade. They have a bridal range, but their other ranges also include floral clips and fascinators that would be gorgeous on any bride. They ship worldwide.

While I think most wedding gowns are beautiful, I am a complete sucker for gowns that involve a bit (or a lot) of colour. This dress from JLM Couture’s Lazaro collection is a gorgeous combination of soft blues, purples and ivory that they describe as wisteria. It’s from their Fall 2012 collection.

If you’re looking for hair inspiration, it seems bridal braids are the way to go at the moment. The Knot has a lovely collection of updos with braids to tempt you.

Art & Design

Those of us who are a little older remember the fun that could be had with animated gifs from the early days of the internet. But artists today are taking them to a whole new level. The best I’ve seen recently are the animated craft beer labels created each week by Trevor Carmick.

Bethany Kemp, a graphic design student from England’s midlands region has produced the beautifully illustrated children’s book Strange Things. Like many children’s books this one revolves around a central message, in this case the impact of littering.

I came across Anna Pardini’s wooden jewellery creations in a tiny gallery display in Brisbane, and was instantly attracted to them. As a bonus she has 10% off for first time purchasers in her Etsy shop.

Random Asides

For a little over a year Lost Movements has been putting on events which bring together local musicians, artists and performers. Their next event is on from 3pm on Sunday, 4 August 2013 in Coniston Lane in Fortitude Valley. We’ll be there taking photos of the models in the Glory Box fashion parades. Feel free to say hello if you see us!

This video of cosplayers at the San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) in July 2013, makes me smile. I love cosplayers. Note: This link will take you to a video on YouTube which will autoplay.

The 2nd annual James Street Food and Wine Trail starts on Saturday, 3 August 2013. There will be food stalls, pop up restaurants and bars, and cooking demonstrations. It runs until 10 August 2013.

That’s it for another week’s quick picks. Have a great weekend!
