Quick Picks Week 42, 2013 – featuring alternatives to wedding cake, girls dressed in milk, and a scent camera.

Quick Picks

After a very busy week we’re planning a quick escape to the beach. So as we get ready for some surf and some sun, here’s this week’s quick pick of internet finds to help you wind down to the weekend. As usual, good things come in threes…

Weddings

As shocking as it seems, not everyone likes cake. The vintage and handmade bride has some suggestions for those of you considering alternatives to wedding cake for your big day.

It’s Fall Bridal Fashion Week in New York and the Huffington Post has a wrap up of emerging wedding dress trends you can expect to see over the next year or so.

The Brisbane Polo Club is holding a wedding open day from 11am – 2pm on Sunday. It’s free, but you need to register to attend.

Art & Design

Photographer Jordan Matter spent six years photographing over 100 women in New York City for his Uncovered project. While that’s interesting enough, the really interesting bit is that they had all volunteered to be bare-breasted.

Jaroslav Wieczorkiewicz is another photographer who decided to create portraits with a twist in his Milky Pinups series. The twist is that the girls are “dressed” in milk. Yes you read that right, milk.

Mexican studio Flaminguettes have created magic by combining a rhythmic dancer, a hula hoop and some fabulous animation in their short film Etereas.

Random Asides

Designer Amy Radcliffe has created the Madeline, a kind of camera to record scent rather than pictures. As someone who loves the way that particular scents can evoke memories, I have to admit to being quite intrigued by this.

The Sunshine Aquarium has created an augmented reality app that lets you follow animated penguins to the aquarium. Trust Japan to come up with a more interesting way to show people how to locate your venue.

I love Richard Curtis’s films (Notting Hill, Love Actually). So I was quite excited when Geoff mentioned that he has a new one out – About Time. Another drawcard is that it stars the fabulous Bill Nighy. It’s out now.

That’s it for another week’s quick picks. Have a great weekend!
